Meghan O. Spieker
Candidate for City Council (At-Large), Del Mar
Meghan O. Spieker is a 25-year Del Mar resident and business litigator with 16 years of experience who currently serves as a Del Mar Planning Commissioner. She founded and chairs the board of Free to Thrive, which provides legal services to survivors of human trafficking, has served over a decade on the California Wildlife Officers Foundation board, and is a trustee at her sons' school and a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy. She holds an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and a law degree with honors from Georgetown.
Spieker's campaign lists priorities across housing, climate resilience, fiscal management, infrastructure, local control, rail safety, and Shores Park improvements. She says she wants to meet state affordable-housing mandates while preserving Del Mar's community character, build climate adaptation capacity against fire and flood risk, protect the city's fiscal assets, maintain roads/parks/sewers/beaches/public-safety systems, push back against state erosion of local zoning authority, support moving rail tracks off the eroding coastal bluffs and study of a Northern Yellow Line alternative, and improve Shores Park as a recreational gathering space. The Del Mar Firefighters Association endorsed her, citing her commitment to 'protecting the quality of life' in the city.
