Aimee A. FeinbergIncumbent

Candidate for Court of Appeal Justice, California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, Seat 7

Aimee A. Feinberg has served as an Associate Justice of the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, since January 30, 2024. She earned her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley, where she was Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School, where she was in the Order of the Coif. She then was a clerk for Judge David S. Tatel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She also clerked for Justice Stephen G. Breyer of the U.S. Supreme Court. Her career mixed private appellate practice, academic work, and state government service. She practiced at a firm called Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP. She also ran the California Supreme Court Clinic at the UC Davis School of Law. From 2014 to 2023, she served as a Deputy Solicitor General in the California Department of Justice. There, she stood for state agencies and officials in hard cases. Those cases went before the U.S. Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit, and other courts. She went back to Munger, Tolles & Olson as of counsel in 2023. Then, Gov. Gavin Newsom made known her pick for the Third District on December 7, 2023. The Commission on Judicial Appointments confirmed the pick, and she took office on January 30, 2024. This was her first job on the bench. She joined the court after the 2022 general election had passed. So the November 3, 2026 general election is her first time facing the voters. It will be a nonpartisan retention vote, with no one running against her, on whether she stays in office. As of August 2026, no group had been found campaigning for or against her.
