Tanya Potter
Candidate for Mayor, Windsor · Councilmember/Police Sergeant
Tanya Potter has lived in Windsor for nearly two decades and has spent about 17 years in law enforcement, including as a police officer in Santa Rosa and Healdsburg and as a Sonoma County probation officer. She previously served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer. She holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice management and a master's degree in public administration. She currently serves as Windsor's vice mayor representing District 4, is vice chair of the town's Parks and Recreation Commission, and sits on the Public Arts Advisory Commission. She and her husband, a retired Santa Rosa Junior College police sergeant, have raised three children and fostered eleven more over twelve years.
Positions in brief
Potter says she views every town decision through a public-safety and emergency-preparedness lens, paired with calls for efficient, transparent budgeting and continued progress on affordable housing.
Potter's campaign centers on public safety, which she says should inform every council decision, including building 'safety by design' (crime prevention through environmental design) into infrastructure and development choices. She has also called for making sure tax dollars are spent efficiently amid the town's structural budget deficit, favors a measured, 'slow growth' approach to development paired with infrastructure upgrades, and has acknowledged the town's ongoing need for more affordable housing, noting Windsor built only 173 affordable units between 2010 and 2020.
